When Mitte found itself in East Berlin, pre-war fashionable Charlottenburg,
around the Kurfurstendamm, found itself being hastily restored
and the new hub of West Berlin society.
Visit the magnificent Schloss Charlottenburg and the Hohenzollern
Museum.The Schloss, originally known as Schloss Lietzenburg, was
intended as the summer palace for Sophie Charlotte, the wife of
Elector Friedrich lll. Building started in 1695, but in 1705 the
now Queen Sophie Charlotte, died and the Schloss was renamed in
her memory.
