Museum Island is enclosed between tributaries of the River Spree
and it was here that the first mention of Berlin is found dating
back to the mid 13th century. Access to the island is easy, via
one of the several bridges that cross the river.
The imperial palace, the Stadschloss, was to be found on the
island but was destroyed in 1950. However, the magnificent Berliner
Dom, the cathedral, survives in all its spectacular glory along
with numerous mueums.
It's here that you can visit, amongst others, the Bodemuseum,
the Altes Museum,
the Pergamonmuseum, the Alte Nationalgalerie and the Markisches
Museum.
